Kitterman Woods Residents is your dog constantly licking and scratching? If so, you’re not alone. Many dogs lick and scratch as result of itching (also called pruritis). The itching may be minimal or extreme and can even cause injury.

Itching is a characteristic of many possible skin conditions and treating an itch effectively requires determining the underlying cause. This is not a road you want to go down alone. Finding the cause of an itch requires testing and help from your veterinarian.

What might make my dog itchy?

It is important to remember that itching is not a disease or a cause of disease, but rather the result of a disease process. Effectively treating itching requires treating its cause. If your dog is frequently itchy, you may first suspect a problem with fleas. It’s a common assumption, but fleas are far from the only cause of skin irritations and itches. That said, your dog should absolutely be on year-round flea and tick preventative.

Some diseases only start to itch when a dog develops secondary bacterial or yeast infections. Whatever the cause, it’s understandable that intense itching is a serious source of distress for your dog.

These free, guided hikes give residents and tourists the opportunity to explore the more than 10,000 acres of preserves that St. Lucie County offers.

Engaging Ecology Hike at Ancient Oaks Preserve. Discover the fragile balance in nature as we walk between two different ecosystems and experience the differences between the plants and animals that utilize both. Programs are usually limited to 15 people helping to allow participants to immerse themselves into the county’s beautiful natural areas. Programs target ages 12 and older unless otherwise noted. All minors must be accompanied by an adult. Proper footwear and water are required for all programs and please leave pets at home.

Purchased through a voter-approved bond referendum, St. Lucie County manages more than two dozen preserves that are open to the public for passive recreation.

Main Street Fort Pierce has a day full of family-friendly activities planned for Dec. 2, starting at 1 p.m. Enjoy entertainment by local dance groups, food vendors, arts and crafts, a kids’ zone and the much anticipated parade at 4 p.m. Immediately following the parade is the Holiday Christmas Tree lighting. The popular “Holiday Lights Spectacular” in Marina Square which consists of over 100,000 lights synchronized to holiday music is a must-see for local and out of town guests.

Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Why not come out to Oktoberfest?

Sailfish Brewing Company and 2nd St. Bistro are coming together again to host another epic Downtown Fort Pierce party. 2nd Street will be lined with Oktoberfest Beer Hall tents for you to gather beneath with your friends. This is a family friendly event for all ages. There will be Oktoberfest style street games, live music throughout the day, and a bounce house for the kids. Don’t miss the special beer release line up coming from Sailfish or the German fare cooked up by 2nd St. Bistro. The time has come to bust out your lederhosen and dirndls and strut your stuff!

They will also be hosting the second annual costume contest at 7:30 pm. There is a $300 CASH prize and only 1 winner – you can enter solo, as a couple, or as a group.

East Harbor is the headlining act, they will be performing at 8:00 pm.

The party starts at 2:00 pm and goes all night. Downtown Fort Pierce on 2nd St. between Marina Way and Orange Ave. Free parking in the Downtown Parking Garage. All ages welcome.

Kitterman Woods Residents come out and support your local Fort Pierce Jazz & Blues Society will having a trip down memory lane. Members and supporters of the Fort Pierce Jazz and Blues Society have had a blast setting the time machine backwards and hosting mini class reunions this summer! In July it was a return to the psychedelic 60s with everything from The Stroll to a mini-Beatles invasion. In August, we rewound to the 1970s and learned that nearly everyone knows at least a few of the words to the decade icon I Will Survive, so let’s see how well we do when we crank the time machine back to the 1980s. On Tuesday, September 25th, the Sunrise Black Box Theatre will come alive with the likes of Michael Jackson telling everyone that Billy Jean is not my lover. You can travel back with Bonnie Tyler for a Total Eclipse of the Heart, and if you bring a group of friends, you may just find out if it’s true that Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Along the way, there will be trivia contests, prizes for the best flashback to 1980s fashion (think lots of hair spray and fingerless lace gloves), and a chance to travel back to a time before everyone had a cell phone, laptop computers weren’t even a twinkle in Steve Jobs eyes, and the sound of the AOL logon was brand new and kind of intriguing.
Sure, well still have the classic jazz jam you love for the first hour of the evening as we always do, but on Tuesday, September 25th, we’ll all become Men Without Hats because, we can dance if we want to. We can leave your friends behind. Cause your friends don’t dance, and if they don’t dance, well, they’re no friends of mine.
Even though these are extra special evenings of music, memories, and magic, the cover charge is still only $6 for members and $7 for everyone else. Best of all, your admission price helps cover the costs of scholarships for young, talented musicians hoping to pursue a career in music, like the eight scholarships we gave out just a couple months ago to area students.
