Please Do Not Feed the Wildlife
Gators and hurricanes are part of living in Florida. We may joke about it, but when it comes down to it, Florida takes real gators seriously. Officials estimate there are up to two million alligators in Florida, many living in urban areas that have encroached on their natural habitat.
There are many reasons why you shouldn’t feed wildlife especially alligators. Though it may seem like a harmless thing to do; this action is actually very dangerous!
It is not a matter of what you feed them, but the change of alligator behavior if you do feed them. When you feed an alligator it associate’s humans with food. Officials estimate there are up to two million alligators in Florida, many living in urban areas that have encroached on their natural habitat. Last year, more than 7,000 alligators had to be killed after becoming too accustomed to people and too dangerous to leave in the wild.
We know it’s hard to resist but please do not feed any wild life or leave food around the community. Native animals that eat human food can, bite, scratch, and threaten our residents/guests or they can also become sick. It is also illegal to feed or harass an alligator in the state of Florida.
