GET A GOOD PET CRATE OR CARRIER

If you are going to be traveling, you likely want to have a good pet crate or carrier to help you get your pet from place to place. If you are traveling by plane, this is going to be something that is required. Make sure you get a quality one that offers safety as well as security for your pet.

CHECK HOTEL OR AIRLINE POLICIES

Depending on where you are staying, you want to make sure that you are following all of the policies in place. If you are flying, check with the airline to make sure you do everything that’s required. If you are staying in a hotel, make sure pets are allowed, and inform the hotel management that you will be bringing your pet during your stay. If you will be staying with a friend or family members, you also want to make sure they know that you’re bringing your pet, and make sure to ask their permission ahead of time.

BRING FOOD AND WATER

During the trip, you want to have food and water for your pet. You also want to keep things as normal as possible, so you should bring the right pet food that your animal is used to for the trip. You do not want to run the risk of not being able to find their normal pet food at your destination, so take the extra step of bringing it. That way, you’ll have one less thing to worry about.

The donations help The Treasure Coast Food Bank programs such as pet food pantries, The Kid Backpack Program, Healthy Option Program for the elderly, and much more!  More than 97,000 people along the Treasure Coast do not know where their next meal is coming from.  Help join in the fight and make a difference.  Your random act of kindness will help in such a good cause!

Moving can not only be stressful for you, but can also cause a lot of stress for your four legged friend! Apartment living is an adjustment but can be a very rewarding! It just takes a little encouragement, patience and consistency!

The first step to a healthy living situation for your dog is lots of exercise! Taking them on walks around the property and to our on site Dog Park is a great way to do this! Be sure you are always in control of your pet by having them on a leash! It is for not only the safety of others but for the safety of your pet. Also be sure to pick up after your pet! Not only is it rude to leave pet waste, it is also harmful to other pets and spreads disease.

To help your pet from barking when you’re not home is no easy task, but can be done! Create a safe environment for your dog,  When you’re getting ready to leave for work, consider closing your curtains and turning on your television, radio or a white-noise machine. The combination of constant white noise and inability to see outside usually helps matters considerably.  Another way to address doggie boredom is to provide Fido with some sort of entertainment  to keep him occupied while you’re gone for the day.

Having a well trained pet will always help with apartment living! Just takes lots of love, patience, time & TREATS!

Every fourth Saturday in October is Make a Difference Day!

This day is devoted to helping others by volunteering in your community.  There are several different ways you can make a difference. It can be cleaning up your local parks or beaches.  Going to a local food kitchen and assist with help preparing  or serving a meal. Perhaps visiting a local nursing home and sitting down to play a game of cards with one of residents..

There are several non-profit organizations that are always looking for volunteers.  For your convenience we have listed a few local places where you can make a difference.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Kitterman Woods wants to spread the word about mammograms and encourage communities, organizations, families, and individuals to get involved.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide and the second-most common cancer overall. In 2016, an estimated 246,660 cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. alone.

Due to the use of regular mammography screening, most breast cancers in the U.S. are found at an early stage, before warning signs appear. However, not all breast cancers are found through mammography.

The warning signs of breast cancer are not the same for all women. The most common signs are a change in the look or feel of the breast, a change in the look or feel of the nipple and nipple discharge. Consult your doctor if you have any of these signs.

Prevention is the best tool for fighting breast cancer or any cancer for that matter. Lifestyle changes have been shown in studies to decrease breast cancer risk even in high-risk women. The following are steps you can take to lower your risk:

Limit alcohol: The more alcohol you drink, the greater your risk of developing breast cancer, limit yourself to less than 1 drink per day as even small amounts increase risk.

Don’t smoke: Accumulating evidence suggests a link between smoking and breast cancer risk, particularly in premenopausal women.

Control your weight: Being overweight or obese increases the risk of breast cancer.

Be physically active: Physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight, which, in turn, helps prevent breast cancer.

Breast-feed: Breast-feeding might play a role in breast cancer prevention. The longer you breast-feed, the greater the protective effect.

Eat a Healthy Diet: Eating a healthy diet might decrease your risk of some types of cancer, as well as diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Early Detection: Be vigilant about breast cancer detection. If you notice any changes in your breasts, such as a new lump or skin changes, consult your doctor. Also, ask your doctor when to begin mammograms and other screenings based on your personal history.

So no matter who you are, understanding breast cancer is important. But the most important thing to know is this: a diagnosis is not a death sentence. Breast cancer can be treated.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a chance to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. Make a difference!
