										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Kitterman Woods wants all our residents to stay Happy and Healthy in the New Year!</strong></p>
<p>New Years resolutions, we all make them. Starts out little like this…  I’m going to eat healthier, lose weight , start working out, save money, reduce stress ect.</p>
<p>By the time March is here we tend to sweep those resolutions under the rug. We’ve all done it and there is NO reason we should feel guilty about not sticking with it.</p>
<p><strong>Here are few simple tips.</strong></p>
<p>One easy way not to feel guilty about that resolution, is by not calling it a resolution. Instead try looking at it as a change in lifestyle. Much like moving to a new home or taking a new job.</p>
<p>Trying to lose weight? Did you know walking 20 minutes a day can help you lose weight? It also is good for your heart and is also good to reduce stress. If you’re not disciplined enough do it on your own, you can hire a personal trainer. He or she is sure to keep you on track. They even have personal trainers that will come to your home with equipment to train you. For as little as $40 a session. Do not put pressure on yourself. If you don’t meet your goal, remember we are human… and your best is always good enough. So go ahead, give yourself a big pat on the back. You aimed to run a mile today but, only made it through a half of mile. Way to go!</p>
<p>Eating healthy, it is something we should all do; however when you worked all day, ran errands after work, then drive by that McDonalds on your way home… It would be so much easier to swing through the drive-through grab a Big Mac, and say dinner served! Well here is a quick and easy way to have a home cooked meal every night. Make your meals in advance. You can find simple healthy recipes online. Some only take 30 minutes to prepare. Then pop them into the freezer. Before you leave for work take the meal out and place in fridge. That way when you get home all you have to do is take it out of the refrigerator and warm it up. Now that is easy and healthy!</p>
<p>Now when it comes to money, there are several different things that you can do to keep more green in your pocket. Some easy changes like getting new car insurance, switching cable service or going with a new cell phone carrier. You would be surprised at the savings per month! Coupons, coupons, coupons… Your not a coupon clipper? You ought to be. Its so easy. With today’s technology you do not even have to buy the Sundays paper to get all the coupons. More and more stores provide electronic coupons. Simply by going to their website or sighing up at their web site. There are other sites like Groupon and Local dines, These site offer you merchandise and restaurant dining for a fraction of the cost.</p>
<p>I have given you a lot of tips today. Are you wondering why I haven’t talked about the reducing stress? Well that is because if you follow these simple tips, you are already on your way to reducing some stress factors in your life.</p>
<p>Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s an exciting time at Kitterman Woods and for our nation!</p>
<p><a href="https://kittermanwoods.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/ThinkstockPhotos-200263479-001.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-2455" src="https://kittermanwoods.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/ThinkstockPhotos-200263479-001-199x300.jpg" alt="Eclipse" width="199" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>On <strong>Monday, August 21st, 2017</strong>, all of North America will experience an eclipse of the sun. According to NASA, anyone within the “path of totality” will be able to see a total solar eclipse.  This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun will stretch from Lincoln Beach, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina.  Central Florida is outside this path, but will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun’s disk.  The partial solar eclipse will begin at 1:26 p.m. and last until 4:20 p.m. with a maximum coverage being reached at 2:51 p.m.</p>
<p>Looking directly at the sun when it is partially covered by the moon can cause serious eye damage or blindness.  It is dangerous to look at a partial solar eclipse without proper eye protection.</p>
<p>Tips and instructions on safety during the eclipse can also be located in the link below.<br />
<a href="http://track.spe.schoolmessenger.com/f/a/c5vYqR0vv2i8ntDiWXhVMg~~/AAAAAQA~/RgRbdK-AP0EIAOzEYsEalQpXB3NjaG9vbG1YBAAAAABCCgADAHyTWWHz1ClSEldFTkRZRU1DQGdtYWlsLmNvbQlRBAAAAABEI2h0dHBzOi8vZWNsaXBzZTIwMTcubmFzYS5nb3Yvc2FmZXR5R6h7InVzZXJpZCI6IjEyIiwicGVyc29uaWQiOiI3NjAxNCIsImVtYWlsU291cmNlIjoiQ1VTVE9NRVJfSk9CIiwiY3VzdG9tZXJpZCI6IjEyMzExIiwiam9iaWQiOiIyOSIsInNlbnRUaW1lTXMiOiIxNTAyODM3MjQ1NzQ2IiwiZW52IjoicHJvZCIsInNoYXJkaWQiOiI4Iiwic2VxdWVuY2UiOiIwIn0~">https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety</a></p>
<h1><strong>Solar Eclipse Safety</strong></h1>
<h1><strong><a href="https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/publications/Safety_508.pdf">How to View the 2017 Solar Eclipse Safely</a></strong></h1>
<p>Looking directly at the sun is unsafe except during the brief total phase of a solar eclipse (“totality”), when the moon entirely blocks the sun’s bright face, which will happen only within the narrow path of totality (<a href="https://go.nasa.gov/2pC0lhe">https://go.nasa.gov/2pC0lhe (link is external)</a>).</p>
<p>The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” (example shown at left) or hand-held solar viewers. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun; they transmit <em>thousands</em> of times too much sunlight. Refer to the American Astronomical Society (AAS) <strong><a href="https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters">Reputable Vendors of Solar Filters &amp; Viewers (link is external)</a></strong> page for a list of manufacturers and authorized dealers of eclipse glasses and handheld solar viewers verified to be compliant with the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard for such products.</p>
<ul>
<li>Always inspect your solar filter before use; if scratched or damaged, discard it. Read and follow any instructions printed on or packaged with the filter.</li>
<li>Always supervise children using solar filters.</li>
<li>Stand still and cover your eyes with your eclipse glasses or solar viewer before looking up at the bright sun. After looking at the sun, turn away and remove your filter — do not remove it while looking at the sun.</li>
<li>Do not look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars, or other optical device.</li>
<li>Similarly, do not look at the sun through a camera, a telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while using your eclipse glasses or hand-held solar viewer — the concentrated solar rays will damage the filter and enter your eye(s), causing serious injury.</li>
<li>Seek expert advice from an astronomer before using a solar filter with a camera, a telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device. Note that solar filters must be attached to the <em>front</em>of any telescope, binoculars, camera lens, or other optics.</li>
<li>If you are within the path of totality (<a href="https://go.nasa.gov/2pC0lhe">https://go.nasa.gov/2pC0lhe (link is external)</a>), remove your solar filter only when the moon completely covers the sun’s bright face and it suddenly gets quite dark. Experience totality, then, as soon as the bright sun begins to reappear, replace your solar viewer to look at the remaining partial phases.</li>
<li>Outside the path of totality, you must <em>always</em>use a safe solar filter to view the sun directly.</li>
<li>If you normally wear eyeglasses, keep them on. Put your eclipse glasses on over them, or hold your handheld viewer in front of them.</li>
</ul>
<p><em>Note:</em> If your eclipse glasses or viewers are compliant with the ISO 12312-2 safety standard, you may look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun through them for as long as you wish. Furthermore, if the filters aren&#8217;t scratched, punctured, or torn, you may reuse them indefinitely. Some glasses/viewers are printed with warnings stating that you shouldn&#8217;t look through them for more than 3 minutes at a time and that you should discard them if they are more than 3 years old. <em>Such warnings are outdated and do not apply to eclipse viewers compliant with the ISO 12312-2 standard adopted in 2015.</em> To make sure you get (or got) your eclipse glasses/viewers from a supplier of ISO-compliant products, see the American Astronomical Society (AAS) <strong><a href="https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters">Reputable Vendors of Solar Filters &amp; Viewers (link is external)</a></strong> page.</p>
<p>An alternative method for safe viewing of the partially eclipsed sun is <a href="https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/projection">pinhole projection (link is external)</a>. For example, cross the outstretched, slightly open fingers of one hand over the outstretched, slightly open fingers of the other, creating a waffle pattern. With your back to the sun, look at your hands’ shadow on the ground. The little spaces between your fingers will project a grid of small images on the ground, showing the sun as a crescent during the partial phases of the eclipse. Or just look at the shadow of a leafy tree during the partial eclipse; you&#8217;ll see the ground dappled with crescent Suns projected by the tiny spaces between the leaves.</p>
<p>A solar eclipse is one of nature’s grandest spectacles. By following these simple rules, you can safely enjoy the view and be rewarded with memories to last a lifetime. More information:</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://eclipse.aas.org/">eclipse.aas.org (link is external)</a>          eclipse2017.nasa.gov</strong></p>
<p><em>This document does not constitute medical advice. Readers with questions should contact a qualified eye-care professional.</em></p>
<h1><strong><u>Additional Safety Information</u></strong></h1>
<p>An eclipse is a rare and striking phenomenon you won&#8217;t want to miss, but you must carefully follow safety procedures. Don&#8217;t let the requisite warnings scare you away from witnessing this singular spectacle! You can experience the eclipse safely, but it is vital that you protect your eyes at all times with the proper solar filters. No matter what recommended technique you use, do not stare continuously at the sun. Take breaks and give your eyes a rest! Do not use sunglasses: they don&#8217;t offer your eyes sufficient protection. The only acceptable glasses are safe viewers designed for looking at the sun and solar eclipses. One excellent resource on how to determine if your viewers are safe can be found here:  <a href="https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/iso-certification">https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/iso-certification (link is external)</a></p>
<p><strong>Viewing with Protection</strong> &#8212; Experts suggests that one widely available filter for safe solar viewing is welders glass of sufficiently high number. The only ones that are safe for direct viewing of the Sun with your eyes are those of Shade 12 or higher. These are much darker than the filters used for most kinds of welding. If you have an old welder&#8217;s helmet around the house and are thinking of using it to view the Sun, make sure you know the filter&#8217;s shade number. If it&#8217;s less than 12 (and it probably is), don&#8217;t even <em>think</em> about using it to look at the Sun. Many people find the Sun too bright even in a Shade 12 filter, and some find the Sun too dim in a Shade 14 filter — but Shade 13 filters are uncommon and can be hard to find. The <a href="https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters">AAS Reputable Vendors of Solar Filters &amp; Viewers page (link is external)</a> doesn&#8217;t list any suppliers of welder&#8217;s filters, only suppliers of special-purpose filters made for viewing the Sun.To find out more about eyewear and handheld viewers go to <a href="https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/eyewear-viewers">https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/eyewear-viewers (link is external)</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Telescopes with Solar Filters</strong> – Eclipses are best viewed directly when magnified, which means a telescope with a solar filter or solar telescopes. These will give you a magnified view that will clearly show the progress of an eclipse. Never look through a telescope without a solar filter on the large end of the scope. And never use small solar filters that attach to the eyepiece (as found in some older, cheaper telescopes.) <a href="https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/optics-filters">https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/optics-filters (link is external)</a></p>
<p><strong><a href="http://solar-center.stanford.edu/observe/">Pinhole and Related Projection Methods (link is external)</a></strong> &#8212; Pinhole projectors and other projection techniques are a safe, indirect viewing technique for observing an image of the sun. These provide a popular way for viewing solar eclipses. One viewing technique is to project an image of the sun onto a white surface with a projecting telescope. This is explained further here: <a href="http://www.astrosociety.org/education/publications/tnl/05/stars2.html">http://www.astrosociety.org/education/publications/tnl/05/stars2.html (link is external)</a></p>
<p>The Exploratorium demonstrates how to view a planet in transit or an eclipse safely by projecting the image with binoculars:<a href="http://www.exploratorium.edu/transit/how.html"> http://www.exploratorium.edu/transit/how.html (link is external)</a>.  There are commercially available projection telescopes as well.</p>
<p>Besides eye protection during solar eclipse viewing, one needs to pay attention to their personal needs and surrounding.  Below are some additional safety tips for eclipse observers before, during and after the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse.</p>

<p>Take a community survey about retail and restaurant development in Port St. Lucie.  The survey will be active until Friday, Sept. 15, 2017</p>
<p>Where: <a href="https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/cometopsl">https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/cometopsl </a></p>
<p>Why: The City of Port St. Lucie is conducting a Targeted Retail and Restaurant Analysis to determine what types of businesses are feasible for the City, based on market demographics and other metrics. This analysis will help the City determine what retail businesses and restaurants fit Port St. Lucie’s profile and demographics, and it will help officials pursue those companies. In conjunction with that analysis, the City wants to know what restaurants and retail establishments residents would like to have in the City. The very brief survey asks residents to answer four questions about the retail businesses and restaurants they hope to have in the City.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>At Kitterman Woods, we love basking in the sun, swimming in our gorgeous pools, or walking our 1/2 mile walking trail.  But with the hot summer here, we have to be careful!  Check out the below tips to keep you healthy this summer!</p>
<p><a href="https://kittermanwoods.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/185040770.jpg"><img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="size-medium wp-image-2404" src="https://kittermanwoods.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/185040770-300x200.jpg" alt="Happy couple on the beach of sea" width="300" height="200" /></a></p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Always apply suncream</strong><br />
It is important to use a suncream lotion of at least SPF 30 in order to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. For sensitive skin, a mineral-based sunscreen is best. Don’t sit in the sun in peak hours between 10am and 4pm in order to minimize UV radiation. If you are planning to be out in the sun for a long period of time, reapply suncream every two to three hours.</li>
<li value="2"><strong>Drink plenty of water</strong>During the hot summer months, heat and sweat can leave your body dehydrated. A lack of water is harmful to your body and can also make you crave food when you’re not actually hungry. It is incredibly important to keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least eight to nine glasses of water a day. Bored of water? Add some low calorific flavoring to water such as a piece of fruit, or opt for healthy alternatives like green tea or coconut water.</li>
<li value="3"><strong>Beware of ‘healthy’ smoothies</strong><br />
Fruit smoothies are a great way to get your five-a-day and keep refreshed throughout the summer, but watch out for smoothies made with frozen yoghurts or ice cream as they can be extremely calorific.A healthy smoothie should be made with fruit, juice, low fat-yoghurt and ice. Use any fruit you might have or have kept in the freezer, and throw it all in a blender to make a perfect summer drink.</li>
<li value="4"><strong>Exfoliate</strong><br />
Summer means an increase of dead skin cells so it is important to exfoliate your skin to keep it smooth and silky. You don’t need to buy any expensive products to achieve that summer glow; simply use a loafer for a light scrub or make your own exfoliation lotion using a handful of oatmeal, milk and yoghurt.</li>
<li value="5"><strong>Keep up the exercise regime</strong><br />
Before you hide those running shoes in the wardrobe, remember summer exercise doesn’t have to stop because of the rising temperatures. Instead of working out outside, change your exercise plan and take it indoors. Join a gym, take up a step class, or get a group of friends around for an afternoon of exercise DVDs.</li>
</ol>
<ol>
<li value="6"><strong>Get wet</strong><br />
Summer is the perfect time of year to get wet! Boring runs in the cold wintery weather can be swapped for a summer swim at your local pool or gym. Start by swimming for 10 minutes and increase the time over the following weeks by doing front crawl, breaststroke or backstroke to mix up your cardio workout. A 30 minute session of this full body workout will burn almost 400 calories! If swimming laps isn’t your thing, join a water aerobics class or create your own aerobic workout with jumping jacks, marching and jogging in water.</li>
<li value="7"><strong>Olive oil</strong><br />
Olive oil is a healthy fat which contains essential fatty acids that help skin resist UV damage. These fatty acids are also part of the cell membranes that keep in all that moisture your body loses through heat and sweat during the summer. In order to protect your skin and keep it supple, consume about 1 tablespoon of olive oil daily or add it to a healthy salad or fish dish in order to get all those essential fatty acids.</li>
<li value="8"><strong>Protect your glossy locks </strong><br />
Our hair suffers a lot during the summer. Constant heat, sun damage and chlorine takes a toll on our hair and can leave it feeling limp and dull after the holidays. If you’re planning on swimming a lot during the summer, it is advisable to use anti-chlorine shampoo and conditioner to help neutralize the chlorine from your hair. If possible, minimize the use of hairdryers, straighteners and other heating products. Towel dry your hair, apply a handful of mouse and revel in beachy summer waves.</li>
<li value="9"><strong>Eat healthy by the pool </strong><br />
When the sun is beating down, the idea of seeking out the nearest ice cream stand is seriously tempting. Stay strong by being prepared, and pack a cooler full of healthy snacks and juices. Fill your ice-box with ice, bottled water, sandwiches, vegetable sticks with hummus, yoghurts and endless amounts of fruit.</li>
<li value="10"><strong>Take up a new hobby </strong><br />
Summer is the perfect time to take up a new activity. Gardening is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and will actually help you burn some calories! Planting a herb garden is a fantastic way of getting your hands dirty, having quick access to some healthy flavours for your summer meals and, if you have kids, get them involved in playing outside.If gardening isn’t your thing, get some inspiration from Wimbledon and try your hand at some tennis or golf. Pilates is the perfect alternative for some alone time in the garden. Roll out a towel and have some fun trying out planks and some breathing techniques in the sun.</li>

<p>Freshwater marshes, or &#8216;savannas,&#8217; once extended all along Florida&#8217;s southeast coast. Stretching more than 10 miles from Ft. Pierce to Jensen Beach, this preserve is the largest and most intact remnant of Florida&#8217;s east coast savannas. A good place for visitors to start is the Environmental Education Center, where they can learn about the importance of this unique and endangered natural system. Picnic tables are available near the center. Canoeing, kayaking, and fishing in the wetlands are popular activities. Wildlife enthusiasts and photographers can enjoy the diversity of habitats this undisturbed area offers. Over eight miles of multi-use trails provide opportunities for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. Guided walks and canoe trips are available by reservation.</p>
